| Dr. Alexander was trained and supervised in group therapy by two psychiatrists at Duke Medical Center, Dr. Bob Phillips and Dr. John Fowler. As a member of the American Group Psychotherapy Association and Carolina's Group Psychotherapy Association, Susan remains dedicated to staying up-to-date on the latest diagnostic and treatment advances. Over the past 20 years, her expertise has earned her a trusted reputation for getting results. Why Group Therapy? If you or someone you love is struggling with interpersonal, social, and relationship problems, group therapy can help. It is one of the most effective forms of therapy, and the process helps you realize that you are not alone - there are others struggling with the same or similar difficulties. You learn from others as they grow and change. They show you how to get there, and it can be an inspirational process!
Dr. Alexander has three mixed gender (4 males/4 females) groups made up of individuals with different issues and backgrounds. Group members learn social and problem-solving skills through their interactions with other group members. You work at you own pace to accomplish defined goals. Each member is rewarded and acknowledged when goals are attained. Because group members sometimes remind you of significant other people in your life, you will have the opportunity to express emotions, confront issues, and receive feedback without risking family, romantic, or professional relationships.
