Psychological Evaluations for ADHD/LD

Dr. Alexander trained and/or worked with many leaders in ADHD including Dr. Russell Barkley, Drs. Hallowell and Ratey, Dr. Tom Gualtieri and Dr. Daniel Amen.  She further developed her expertise in ADHD/LD evaluations at the NCSU Counseling Center and provides thorough and comprehensive evaluations for adults, college students, adolescents, and children.

If you struggle with distractibility, concentration, memory, and organization problems, this evaluation can help sort out what is going on. Adults with ADD may feel that they are underperforming at work or struggling to get things done at home. Students tend to be underachieving and disinterested in school. Since there is a strong correlation between ADHD and learning disabilities, it is important to screen for both problems at the same time when the client is a student. Tests administered include a battery of tests to assess the following areas:

  • Cognitive  (intellectual performance)
  • Achievement  (reading, math, and written language)
  • Personality functioning  (discriminates between anxiety, depression, and ADD)

Dr. Alexander follows the testing guidelines for ADHD/LD established by the North Carolina State Department of Public Instruction.  She works with public schools, private schools, colleges/universities, and the College Board regarding recommendations for appropriate academic accommodations.

Other Evaluations:

  • Personality Inventories – These inventories provide information about the presence of a variety of clinical symptoms like anxiety, depression, mood swings, and predominant personality traits. These inventories are extremely helpful in marital/couples counseling because they provide a quick and thorough assessment of issues and personality traits that create relationships conflicts.
  • Intelligence Testing – IQ tests measure academic strengths/weaknesses, and they provide information about learning styles and giftedness.
